Occupation/Views
My real name is Samuel Langhorn Clemens, but I use my pen name, Mark Twain. I am a well known author; some of my most popular reads are "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", and "To The Person Sitting In Darkness" which criticized the Philippines War. When the United States went to Cuba and fight for their freedom aganist the Spanish, I was all for it. I had the same mentality in the Philippines. But I started to oppose the the United States involvement when they would not give the countries full freedom and running their country. I think that the government used the these situations to further expand the United States authority around the globe. I do not like American Imperalism, because it is used to civilize other countries and not themselves. We are not the ones to pass judgement on the nations. Once we have liberated them and set up a firm system as a foundation. That nation should build upon it how they like and not by what the United States wants.
During the Philippines rebellion, I strongly supported Emilio Aguinaldo for his efforts in opposition against the United States. Also, I am deeply involved in the Anti-Imperialist League.
Reasons
- Believes that the Filipinos should have their complete freedom and not limited
- Wants Uinted States to be more concerned internally
- Imperialism is just to expand auority around the globe
- I am deeply involved in these issues because I have a lot of passion on the issues
